Why fitness?

Being physically fit and healthy can protect against depression and reduce your risk of contracting serious illnesses. Even moderate amounts of regular physical activity can help make you fitter, which reduces your risk of developing chronic health conditions including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Exercise can be as effective as medication for treating depression and anxiety.

Can you exercise with chronic disease?

Exercise benefits everyone, even people with a chronic disease like osteoarthritis, obesity, diabetes or high blood pressure. It’s important that the exercise is appropriate, and that’s where the CBHS Better Living programs can help. If you’re living with a chronic disease, including heart disease, the programs can help improve your fitness with one-on-one support from exercise physiologists experienced at working with complex medical conditions. You need to hold an appropriate level of Hospital cover or packaged product.

Fitness and diet go hand-in-hand

If you’re looking to nourish your body to better support your fitness goals, you can claim benefits for dietitian support under your Extras also. Virtual health clinic Valion Health offers dietetic services via telehealth and online, during the daytime and at evenings and weekends. Check your policy for details or view CBHS Extras cover.

Enjoy the benefits of a gym

You don’t have to join a gym to get fit, but it can certainly help. Most gyms offer structured group classes, or you can work at your own pace on professional equipment knowing instructors are there to help if you need it. CBHS Extras or packaged cover offers benefits for health management programs that include gym memberships or personal training. You’ll need a referral from a health practitioner in order to claim.
