Children’s health and parenting

Children, like adults, can be afflicted by both physical and mental health problems.

Health problems that don’t arise until later years often originate as a result of childhood.
To provide your child the best start to life, there is a lot to consider, but every child has the right to the basics − a safe environment, good nutrition, loving relationships and of course, the chance to play and develop. Unfortunately, becoming unwell or getting hurt from time to time is part of childhood too – that’s why we have private health cover! As a parent, your role is to help your child to get back on their feet again, either at home or with the help from the right health care professional.

Good dental health for life

An early start is a good start! Regular dental check-ups are important from the age of one, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. For members with Extras cover, using a CBHS Corporate Choice Network provider can reduce or remove the gap for selected preventative dental services like check-ups.

Accidents happen

Kids learn through play, and sometimes that involves accidents. This is because kids are not as good as adults in being able to assess the risks involved in new activities and avoid potential dangers. Falls are the most common reason for injury-related hospitalisation for injuries across all age groups. Family Hospital cover can give you peace of mind and help ensure your little ones are well taken care of when they need it most. Read more about our family insurance options.

Caring for those precious eyes

Around 12% of children experience a vision disorder, with long-sightedness and short-sightedness being the two most common. In children aged 10-14, one in six will need glasses or contact lenses. By catching any vision problems early, there’s time to correct them before they impact your child’s learning. Our Extras covers include generous benefits for optical services, plus we have some of Australia’s biggest brands in our CBHS Corporate Choice Network of providers.
