What is a Student Dependant?
A Student Dependent is a child that maintains eligibility for their parents’ health insurance coverage as long as they meet certain study requirements.
What are the Student Dependant eligibility requirements?
Your child must be:
- At least eighteen years of age and not have a spouse;
- Be a full-time student at a school, college, or university or undertaking an apprenticeship; and
- Under the age of twenty-five years.
When is my child not eligible to be a Student Dependant?
Student Dependant’s coverage ends when your child:
- Turns 25
- Is no longer studying full-time
- Gets married or enters a de-facto relationship
How long is the Student Dependant period?
The Student Dependant year runs from 1 March to 28 February the following year.
How can I keep my child under my coverage until they’re 25?

How to renew your dependants’ status
To re-register the status of your dependant, login to the Member Centre and select ‘Student Declaration’ under the “My Account” tab, and follow the instructions provided. Alternatively you can fill out the Student Dependent Form, and post it to Locked Bag 5014 Parramatta NSW 2124 prior to 1st March 2019.
You can keep your child as a non-student dependant if you take on non-student dependant cover for the following products:
- Gold Extras
- Silver Extras
- Bronze Extras
- Gold Hospital
- Silver Hospital
- Bronze Hospital
- Base Hospital
