Hospital Substitute Treatment

Having home-based treatment and care minimises hospital time. In some cases, you might be able to avoid a hospital admission altogether.

CBHS Corporate Health provides the option of having Hospital Substitute Treatment under CBHS Corporate Health hospital levels of cover. Hospital Substitute Treatment is home-based care and is part of our promise to deliver outstanding value under our insurance products for CBHS Corporate Health members and their families. This service gives members the opportunity to receive medical treatment and support at home, subject to approval from their doctor.

Benefits of Hospital Substitute Treatment

Having home-based treatment and care minimises hospital time. In some cases, you might be able to avoid a hospital admission altogether.

Benefits include:

  • Treatment from specialised medical professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists or nurses in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
  • Shortened hospital stay or hospital admission completely avoided.
  • Reduced exposure to hospital-related infections and complications.
  • If eligible, (assessed on an individual basis); you may qualify for related home-based-care services such as domestic help and or meals.

Am I eligible for Hospital Substitute Treatment?

These home-based treatment or care services are available to all CBHS Corporate Health members who have a hospital product, subject to approval from their doctor. Waiting periods may apply. To find out if you're eligible, please call 1300 586 462.

Cost of Hospital Substitute Treatment

There is no additional cost if the services are appropriate substitutes for treatment that would be covered in a hospital under that product. An example is if you have surgery in hospital and your doctor recommends rehabilitation and physiotherapy. If your doctor approves home-based treatment as being clinically appropriate, you may be able to receive the rehabilitation treatment and care at home.

Additional items such as artificial aids can be claimed under CBHS Corporate Health’s Gold or Siver Extras products. Wound management could also be undertaken at home, whereby a registered nurse would come to your home to clean and change wound dressings.

How to access Hospital Substitute Treatment

Talk to your surgeon, doctor or hospital about the possibility of receiving rehabilitation treatment or the care of a registered nurse at home. If your doctor thinks home-based treatment or rehabilitation is clinically appropriate, we will work to coordinate a suitable treatment plan for you. You can also contact us directly to find out more about how this care is coordinated.
